Little Rock Personal Injury Lawyers

No Billboards. No TV Ads. Just 70 Years Representing Arkansans.

You won’t see McMath Woods on a billboard or TV commercial. For over 70 years, our firm’s sole focus has been representing individual Arkansans who have been injured or wronged through no fault of their own.

McMath Woods History

1953

The Beginning A Legendary Trial Lawyer

After serving as the 34th Governor of Arkansas, Sid McMath, with Henry Woods and Leland Leatherman, founded McMath Woods. The law firm soon gained a state-wide reputation for representing Arkansans in personal injury cases. Both McMath and Woods were admitted to the prestigious Inner Circle of Advocates, a national organization that recognizes only two lawyers from each state as among The Top 100 Best Plaintiffs Lawyers in the U.S.

1969

Legal Landmarks Protecting Workers

A 23-year-old worker was severely injured due in part to the negligence of a construction firm that was building a dam on the Arkansas River near Pine Bluff. The case escalated to federal court where Sid McMath implored the jury “to let justice flow like a mighty river”. They did, awarding what was at the time, the largest-ever admiralty personal injury verdict in the court’s history.

1987

Environmental Law Caring For Public Health

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a warning to Tyson Foods Inc. related to waste from its chicken processing plant that was contaminating groundwater in Green Forest, AR. After little changed, in 1987 McMath Woods sued Tyson, resulting in an award of damages for citizens affected and a formal finding that Tyson had violated the Clean Water Act.

2006

Representing Arkansans Holding Power Accountable

A 21-year old Army private from Prescott, AR was electrocuted while in basic training at Fort Benning in Georgia. McMath Woods represented the victim’s estate and uncovered that the maintenance contractor for the base, Shaw Industries, shared fault for the incident with the Army. The jury awarded the victim’s estate a $6.5 million verdict.

2011

Consumer Advocacy Uncovering the Truth

Lase Med Inc. was advertising they could cure breast cancer without medical evidence to support the claim, deceiving the public and hopeful patients. McMath Woods investigated, engaged expert oncologists, and sued the corporation on behalf of an affected Arkansas resident. The jury found the corporation guilty of fraudulent and deceptive advertising practices and awarded $2.5 million in damages.

2023

Deep roots. Elite Lawyers. Legacy of Legal Excellence

Following in the great tradition of the McMath Woods legacy, today the firm’s attorney partners are regularly recognized for legal excellence. In 2022, six of our attorneys were named on the The Best Lawyers of America list. In 2023, Arkansas Money & Politics magazine polled its readers for the top lawyers in Arkansas. The resultant “AMP 2023 Legal Elite” recognized six McMath Woods attorneys.

Personal Injury Cases Fewer Clients. More Attention.

McMath Woods is not a high-volume injury firm. We keep a small number of cases at any given time, which means clients get our full attention. Almost all client contact is with their attorneys. This ensures clients are seen, heard, and updated by those closest to their case. Clients are served by attorneys with diverse experience and a broader network of resources who collaborate to increase efficiency, improve case preparation, and achieve success.

In addition to injury cases, we handle consumer and environmental law claims for individuals and businesses. Whether a group, corporation, entity, or individual harmed or wronged you, we can help you move forward.

Who Do We Represent?

Nearly all of our clients at McMath Woods P.A. are plaintiffs. What this means is that we only represent individuals, families, and small businesses that seek representation after being injured or suffering from negligence due to wrongful actions or inaction taken by another person, group, or corporation. Our primary goals are to help those in need speak against injustices that are committed and obtain justice on behalf of our clients.

What Cases Do We Take?

Our lawyers handle a wide variety of personal injury cases including car accident claims, medical malpractice cases, wrongful death claims, workplace injury claims, and more. We’ve pioneered several class action lawsuits involving defective products.

In our experience practicing environmental law, we’ve represented entire communities impacted by air pollution from local industries or chemical leaks and have handled pesticide crop damage claims from all over the U.S.

We also handle insurance and consumer law. In these cases, we represent individuals who have had claims denied by insurance companies and other bad actors.

How Do We Treat Our Clients?

In addition to being fully committed to every case we accept, we’re equally committed to our clients. We treat our clients like family and believe that strong lawyer-client relationships only strengthen a case and its potential for success. Our lawyers are approachable and readily available for regular communication, updates, and any questions that arise.

What Is McMath Woods Known For?

Our law firm has a longstanding history of excellence and integrity in litigation matters across Arkansas as well as nationwide. McMath Woods P.A. was founded in 1953 by Sidney S. McMath, Leland F. Leatherman, and Henry Woods. They dedicated their practice to representing those injured or wronged in instances of personal injury, labor and employment, and consumer matters, and later went on to develop a strong national reputation for success.

Who was Sidney S. McMath?

Before starting his own law firm, Sidney S. McMath completed two terms as the Governor of Arkansas, with Woods and Leatherman serving by his side in his administration. As proponents of change and advocates of the civil justice system, the three quickly propelled McMath Woods P.A. to become one of the most prolific and influential personal injury firms in the state.

Once McMath and his team became a practiced and influential legal team in Arkansas, McMath went on to be elected as the President of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Woods was appointed as a United States District Court Judge and authored a legal treatise on comparative fault. The earnestness, exemplary spirits, love of the law, and dedication of the firm's three founders live on within the McMath family attorneys and the rest of our team that has taken up the mantle at McMath Woods P.A. We're proud to be part of such a rich history.
